Dog training shouldn't be measured by how many sessions you've attended or how many commands your dog has been introduced to.
The Tacticool Operational Standard provides a consistent framework for evaluating dog-and-handler teams, identifying development priorities, measuring progress, and determining readiness for greater challenges.
We standardize what we measure. We individualize how we develop it.
Two teams can complete the same training program and leave with very different levels of capability.
That's why Tacticool looks beyond attendance and exercises completed. We evaluate what the team can actually demonstrate, how effectively dog and handler work together, and whether those capabilities remain functional as conditions become more challenging.
The Operational Standard gives us a consistent way to establish where a team begins, identify what needs development, and measure what changes through training.
Progress is demonstrated—not attended.
Can the team execute the required capabilities?
Control evaluates the team's ability to perform and maintain foundational skills such as response to cues, positioning, movement, impulse control, and other capabilities relevant to the team's mission.
Can dog and handler operate effectively together?
Compatibility evaluates communication between dog and handler, including engagement, clarity, consistency, handler mechanics, responsiveness, and the team's ability to work cooperatively.
Does capability hold when conditions become more challenging?
Performance evaluates how established skills function as real-world variables are introduced—including distraction, distance, duration, environmental change, competing reinforcement, and other mission-relevant challenges.
Control tells us what the team can do. Compatibility helps us understand how the team works together. Performance shows us what happens when the world pushes back.
Establish the team's current baseline.
Determine strengths, capability gaps, safety considerations, and development priorities.
Recommend an appropriate training path based on the individual team's needs and mission.
Build dog and handler capability using an individualized training strategy.
Progressively challenge established capabilities under relevant conditions.
Compare current capability against the established baseline and determine the appropriate next objective.
Operational Assessment scores provide structured information about current capability. They help identify patterns, strengths, limitations, and development priorities—but they are not grades, labels, or judgments about your dog.
Scores are interpreted alongside the team's history, goals, environment, safety considerations, and the assessor's professional observations. Our obedience training program will teach your pet basic commands like sit, stay, come, and heel. These commands will make your pet easier to manage and more enjoyable to be around.
Capability was not demonstrated under the assessed conditions.
Early capability is present but requires significant development or assistance.
Capability is established in some conditions but lacks consistent reliability.
Capability is demonstrated reliably under the defined conditions.
Capability is reliably demonstrated under appropriate mission-relevant challenge.
The Standard Supports Professional Judgment.
It Does Not Replace It.
No score can account for every variable affecting an individual dog-and-handler team.
Tacticool assessors consider behavioral observations, medical or physical considerations, handler capability, environmental context, safety concerns, and other relevant information when interpreting assessment results.
When necessary, professional judgment may modify a recommendation, establish prerequisites, require additional evaluation, or determine that another course of action better serves the team.
NO CALCULATED SCORE OVERRIDES PROFESSIONAL SAFETY JUDGMENT.
Every development mission needs a starting point.
The Tacticool Operational Assessment applies the Operational Standard to your individual dog-and-handler team, helping us understand current capability, identify development priorities, and determine the appropriate path forward.
